how to make an advertising poster

Session 1: Introduction & Ad Analysis

Objective:
Understand how advertisements work and what makes them powerful.

Activities:

1. Watch & Observe:
Watch 3-4 short ads (videos and posters). Choose fun, popular, or thought-provoking ones that teens can relate to (e.g., Nike, Apple, Coca-Cola, social campaigns).

2. Guided Class Talk (Think-Pair-Share):
Ask:

  • What are they selling or saying?
  • Who are they talking to? (Kids, teens, adults?)
  • What tools do they use? (🎨 colors, 🎵 music, 🎤 slogans, 🤩 characters?)
  • What feelings do they create? (Happy? Inspired? Worried?)

3. Quick Breakdown in Notebooks:
Use this table to fill in basic elements of one ad:

What I SawWhat It MeansHow They Said It
Denotation (what you literally see/hear)Connotation (hidden meaning, emotion)Linguistic Message (slogan, words used)

Example:

A kid running in the rain with old shoes → It’s about effort and dreams, not just the shoes → «Dreams don’t happen overnight» (Nike).
