Los Sacerdotes y la Máscara de Anubis
En el vídeo, los sacerdotes llevan máscaras de chacal. Esto no era simplemente decorativo; era un acto teúrgico (magia ritual).
- Encarnar al Dios: El sacerdote principal, a menudo llamado el Sacerdote Sem o Jery-Heb, se ponía la máscara para asumir el papel de Anubis (el dios de los muertos y el embalsamamiento). Al hacerlo, dejaba de ser humano simbólicamente para convertirse en el protector del cuerpo, guiando el alma a través de la oscuridad.
- El guardián de los secretos: Anubis es quien inventó la momificación para ayudar a Isis a recomponer el cuerpo de Osiris. Por tanto, los sacerdotes recrean ese primer mito fundacional de la resurrección con cada difunto.
2. El «Polvo Blanco»: El Natrón
Se observa cómo cubren el cuerpo con una sustancia blanca parecida a la sal.
- ¿Qué es? Es Natrón, una mezcla natural de carbonato de sodio y bicarbonato de sodio que se recogía en los lechos de lagos secos (como en Wadi El Natrun).
- Su función científica: El cuerpo humano es 75% agua. Para evitar la putrefacción, el cuerpo debía ser cubierto y rellenado con natron durante 40 días. Este compuesto absorbía toda la humedad y disolvía las grasas, dejando el cuerpo seco y preservado, listo para el vendaje.
3. La Importancia del Corazón (Ib)
El audio del vídeo menciona específicamente: «Que los dioses protejan este corazón para la vida eterna».
- El centro del ser: Para los egipcios, el corazón (el Ib) era la sede de la inteligencia, la emoción y la memoria, no el cerebro (el cual se descartaba por la nariz).
- El Juicio de Osiris: El corazón se dejaba dentro del cuerpo o se volvía a colocar tras la desecación porque era necesario para la prueba final. En el Duat (inframundo), el corazón del difunto se pesaba en una balanza contra la Pluma de la Verdad (Maat).
- Si el corazón pesaba lo mismo que la pluma, el alma vivía eternamente.
- Si el corazón pesaba más (por culpa de los pecados), era devorado por Ammit, la devoradora.
- El Amuleto: En el vídeo se ve cómo colocan un escarabajo dorado sobre el pecho. Este es el Escarabeo del Corazón. A menudo llevaba inscrito un hechizo del Libro de los Muertos (el capítulo 30B) que decía: «Oh corazón mío… no testifiques contra mí ante el guardián de la balanza».

In the video, the priests wear jackal masks. This was not merely decorative; it was a theurgic act (ritual magic).
Embodying the God: The chief priest, often called the Sem Priest or Jery-Heb, wore the mask to assume the role of Anubis (the god of the dead and embalming). By doing so, he symbolically ceased to be human and became the protector of the body, guiding the soul through the darkness.
The Keeper of Secrets: Anubis is the one who invented mummification to help Isis reassemble the body of Osiris. Therefore, the priests reenact that first foundational myth of resurrection with every deceased person.
2. The “White Powder”: Natron
You can see them covering the body with a white, salt-like substance.
What is it? It is natron, a natural mixture of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate collected from the beds of dry lakes (such as in Wadi El Natrun).
Its scientific function: The human body is 75% water. To prevent decomposition, the body had to be covered and filled with natron for 40 days. This compound absorbed all the moisture and dissolved fats, leaving the body dry and preserved, ready for wrapping.
3. The Importance of the Heart (Ib)
The video’s audio specifically mentions: “May the gods protect this heart for eternal life.”
The center of being: For the Egyptians, the heart (ib) was the seat of intelligence, emotion, and memory—not the brain (which was discarded through the nose).
The Judgment of Osiris: The heart was left inside the body or put back after drying because it was needed for the final test. In the Duat (the underworld), the deceased’s heart was weighed on a scale against the Feather of Truth (Maat).
- If the heart weighed the same as the feather, the soul lived eternally.
- If the heart weighed more (because of sins), it was devoured by Ammit, the devourer.
The Amulet: In the video you can see a golden scarab placed on the chest. This is the Heart Scarab. It often bore an inscription from the Book of the Dead (Chapter 30B) that said: “O my heart… do not stand as a witness against me before the keeper of the balance.”
