Neil Armstrong
Neil Armstrong flew aboard the Apollo 11 mission, becoming the first person to walk on the Moon. On July 20, 1969, Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed the Lunar Module Eagle in the Sea of Tranquility. During the descent, Armstrong took manual control to avoid a boulder field, landing with limited fuel. At 10:56 PM EDT, Armstrong stepped out onto the lunar surface, famously saying, «That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.» After spending over 21 hours on the Moon, the astronauts returned to Earth, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean on July 24, 1969123.
