Create you own planet
1. Create the Core (The Skeleton)
Aluminum foil is the perfect «base» because it is sturdy and holds its shape without needing glue.
- The Process: Take several large sheets of aluminum foil and crumple them into a tight ball.
- The Texture: Don’t make it perfectly smooth! Leave some ridges and bumps to represent mountain ranges and deep valleys.
- Stability: If the ball feels too light, keep wrapping layers until it’s the size of a grapefruit.
2. Add the Surface (The «Oceans» and «Clouds»)
This is where the plastic wrap comes in. It provides a glossy, translucent layer that mimics an atmosphere or water.
- The Process: Wrap the foil ball tightly in 2–3 layers of plastic wrap.
- The Effect: Because the foil underneath is shiny, the plastic wrap will catch the light, making your planet look like it has a watery surface.
- Tip: If you have permanent markers, you can color the foil (blue or green) before putting the plastic wrap on to give the planet a specific tint.
3. Form the Craters and Ice Caps (The Salt)
The salt adds a crystalline, realistic texture for frozen poles, salt flats, or rocky deserts.
- The Process: To make the salt stick, you can lightly dampen the surface of the plastic wrap (or use a tiny bit of glue/syrup if you have it).
- Placement: * Polar Ice Caps: Sprinkle a heavy layer of salt on the «top» and «bottom» of your foil ball.
- Craters: Create a small «nest» or indentation in the foil, fill it with salt, and press down.
- Visual Contrast: The white salt against the shiny foil and clear plastic creates a beautiful «alien world» look.
Why these materials work:
| Material | Planet Feature | Why? |
| Aluminum Foil | Crust/Core | Malleable, holds «mountain» shapes, and reflects light. |
| Plastic Wrap | Atmosphere/Oceans | Transparent, shiny, and traps the layers beneath it. |
| Salt | Snow/Craters | Provides a grainy, crystalline texture that looks like minerals. |
Pro-Tip for «Orbit»
If you want to make the planet look like it’s floating, take a long, thin strip of aluminum foil, twist it into a tight «rope,» and wrap it around the center of your planet to create a planetary ring like Saturn’s!
